Hello! We are Brad and Amy Loy, the owners and we are looking forward to becoming your preferred locally-owned and operated mattress store Lee’s Summit MO.
Our number one goal is to provide you with the most peaceful night’s sleep and the best comfort for the best value. It is no secret that a good night’s rest is what makes or breaks your day; it affects your health, wellness and energy. This is a big reason why we do what we do. It is extremely important to us that we understand the individual needs of each customer, and their preferences and goals for their new mattress. We will do our best to provide the best mattress that fits within your budget. This sets us apart from the other mattress store Lee’s Summit MO!
A Little Bit About Us / Our History (Family History)
My grandfather, W.P. Loy, or Grandpa Phil, as we called him moved to Kansas City, Missouri in the 1920’s, where he married my Grandmother and they began their family.
In 1939 my Grandpa Phil, after borrowing $5,000 from his brother in law, moved to the small town of Lacon, Illinois to start a business he named “Loys Five and Dime” (Dime Store) in that town. That store over many years became a foundational part of the history of Lacon providing value priced goods for the community including all the items you might find in a general merchandise dime store. To this day people reminisce about the penny candy, toys, “creaky wooden floors”, sewing notions and the friendly service they received shopping at Loys. A little mechanical horse out front called “Sandy” that could be ridden for a nickel also created memories that live on today. My dad worked there as a boy and joined in the family business after graduating from college.
In 1965 after I (Brad) was born our family moved to Sandwich Illinois to expand the business where they opened another store, and Sandwich is where I grew up. I worked in the store as a young boy and throughout high school doing various jobs, such as taking inventory, working the cash register and more… along with eating/”testing” the freshly made popcorn at the front of the store…another one of my jobs 🙂 The principles of honesty and hard work, and following the Golden Rule with customers were instilled in me at an early age. In total my Dad and Grandfather opened and operated five “Loy’s Five and Dime” stores in small towns throughout the midwest. Who knows where the future may lead for our Loys Mattress Store Lee’s Summit MO.
At Loys dime store there was a strong conviction to provide friendly, personal service, as well as quality goods at affordable prices. There was high value in providing a great customer experience and treating people the way you would want to be treated. My family invested in our small, local community and we valued having integrity and the spirit of entrepreneurship. I also grew up hearing stories from Grandpa Phil about a man named Sam Walton who started a similar type store to my grandpa in 1945. This chain of family stores later came to be named Walmart in 1962, the year I was born.
From this foundation of hard work and giving people a valued experience, entrepreneurship and serving the local community, I later looked for work experience that would enable me to continue in that vein. I attended college at the University of Illinois where I was recruited to be a Cutco Cutlery sales representative selling cutlery in people’s homes, beginning with my friends and family. Cutco was and is still today a high quality valued product with great warranties and a practical need that served everyone in my community. Have you ever seen Cutco at Costco? At Cutco in my 12 year career later as a manager there I had the privilege of working with over 10,000 sales representatives, primarily college students, just getting their start in life. The same principles I learned growing up in the dime store business were built into the culture of the organization and became the foundation for many of these college students building their own businesses and futures. To this day, I greatly value providing high quality, practical products that meet the needs of the everyday person. These principles are the foundation of Loys Mattress Store Lee’s Summit MO.
Over the past 25 years since Cutco I have worked in the mattress and furniture industry selling high quality, value-priced, brand new mattresses and furniture products to everyday people. While I have opened and owned my own warehouse store locations, I have also worked helping many others, including two of my sons, open their own mattress and furniture businesses over the years.
In 2020, during Covid, I moved back to Kansas City to marry my beautiful wife Amy. Amy also has entrepreneurial roots, and has years of experience teaching music privately in her home, in Christian Schools and in home school settings. For the past 8 years she has shifted direction and now sells real estate full time throughout the Kansas City area with Keller Williams Realty Partners. She loves her work that provides helping people with a very practical need as well as serving them at a high level. Guess what? Real Estate and owning Loys Mattress Store Lee’s Summit MO go very well together! Often people who buy houses need mattresses! Amy has been in Kansas City for the past 30 years and has been deeply involved in the community, church and many sports and home schooling communities as well.
We feel invested in our local community and have been looking for ways to combine our entrepreneurial roots as well as serve our community. That is why we have started Loys Mattress Store Lee’s Summit MO. Together as lifelong entrepreneurs we want to serve our communities as well as help young entrepreneurs build their own futures and provide good incomes for their families, which is why we hope to open future locations throughout the Kansas City area and midwest. We also attend Abundant Life Church in Lee’s Summit, and have history with Summit Christian Academy, both of which are in Lee’s Summit, just a few minutes from our home in Raymore, MO.
We are excited to open Loys Mattress Store Lee’s Summit MO in hopes of providing value priced products that people use every day with wonderful customer service. We are offering brand new mattress products, saving people 50% or more compared to what they might pay in a traditional retail store. The motto of our Loy’s Mattress Store Lee’s Summit MO is “Helping You Sleep With Peace.” To accomplish this we believe it takes three things:
- Helping you find a great mattress at an affordable price. You sleep on a mattress one third of your life so while having a comfortable supportive mattress is really important, we understand that budgets can be tight and we will work within your budget. No high pressure selling is allowed at Loys.
- Following the Golden Rule. We will treat all customers with kindness and respect and give our customers the best service we can. We will treat you how we want to be treated and we want every customer to walk away with us as their “Friend in the Mattress Business.” The mattress and bedding products we carry come with Manufacturer’ warranties.
- The final way we will try to help you “Sleep with Peace” is a question you can ask us about. It’s more of a personal story and we’d be happy to share.
